Letter of Introduction from Rev George Quarm

 Dear Church Family,

What a great honour it is to be accepted to be your new minister. You might like to know a little more about me as we begin this new and exciting relationship.

I was brought up in the life of the church and therefore cannot remember a time when God was not around. It seems I did not understand all the “happenings” with the Christian faith. It was simply social or entertainment gathering. I was simply a “nominal Christian”.

I came to the faith by accepting Christ into my life on 15th May 1975 through the Scripture Union (SU). SU changed my life and made me a different person; “rascal” becoming a “living saint” as friends have described my transformation.

I became a local Preacher at the age of 16 (the youngest in the connexion at that time) and a Sunday School teacher between 1977- 1980. In Autumn 1980, I felt the call of God in my life and offered myself as prospective candidate for the Methodist Ministry in Ghana. I attended Trinity Theological Seminary in Accra, Ghana from 1984 to 1987. My first appointment as a probationer was in the Central Region of Ghana and ordained in August 1990.

I had the privilege of serving the church as a Circuit Minister for 8 years before opting to be trained as a healthcare chaplain at Birmingham University and The City Hospital Dudley Road, Birmingham. After this I served as a Healthcare Chaplain for five years in Korle-bu Teaching Hospital. I came back to the United Kingdom for further studies with Mindfield College, School of Counselling and Psychotherapy, (Short courses) and the Luton University.

My ministry is focused on Pastoral Care and Counselling, Evangelism, Seminars and Retreats, visiting of the elderly and the hospitalised. I consider myself to be a “gentle charismatic”. I also have a sense of enthusiasm which I carry throughout my ministry. I desire to share and support others in the journey of serving the Lord Jesus Christ using the Bible as a “navigator”. I believe that the young ones are our future therefore as your pastoral leader I will use various ways in worship to build their interest and faith. I simply love to serve the Lord and His Church with strength and joy. Prayer and Bible Study are the resources that refresh us in our daily life, and I can only do what I do with God's constant help.

I am a family man and very mindful of individual family needs which is to be enriched by love, care, concern for their physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. I have been married to Ewurama (Ama) since 1987 and her support to me as a wife, mother of the home, Local Preacher, and leader of women's groups within the church is beyond description. We have been blessed with three sons (Michael (22), Anthony (21) and Folliot (18). Ama is a nurse by profession and the boys are all in full time education.

My hobbies include singing and listening to classic hymns as well as contemporary songs and country music respectively. As a “pop singer” (between 1970 and 1975), I now use my voice to glorify the Lord in songs and poetry. The family have passion for football and support three teams Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal so you can guess what ….(the family is divided on this interest. May God help us.

“I conclude with my favourite two Biblical verses (a) Isaiah 26:3 “ I will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on me because he trusted in me” and (b) “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God” Matthew 5:8.

My ministry has brought me in contact with people of Evangelical/Orthodox Christians, Pentecostal and Charismatic faith. This was made possible through retreats and conferences (Ghana, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Finland, Iceland, USA, Canada, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Luxenbourg, Newfoundland, Switzerland, Belfast, Togo and Ivory Coast).

I hope and trust you will receive us with open mind and heart to enable us serve you and the community.

Thank you all very much. ( Merci Bien.) God Bless.

GEORGE KWESI QUARM.
